Carl Macauley: "The spirit in the squad was really high"

Manager reflects on the season so far

Witton Albion manager Carl Macauley has been reflecting on the 2020-21 season.

Albion were doing well when the Northern Premier League campaign was halted due to COVID-19 back in November.

The boss told the Northwich Guardian that he was pleased with how things were going when the season came to a halt.

“The spirit in the squad was really high – you could see that in players who maybe weren’t getting many minutes but were still delighted for their teammates at getting the results.

"We were always in games and got results when we needed them."

Witton adopted a new formation for the season, playing with a back three featuring captain Josh Wardle, Steve McNulty and Nick Ryan, rather than the conventional back four.

The manager says he was delighted with the way the players adapted to this tactical switch.

“Collectively, we worked very hard,” he said.

“We had to change formation but the lads took on their new responsibilities well.

“They adapted really well and we’re proud they managed to take it off the training ground and put it on the pitch on a matchday."
