INTERVIEW | Steve McNulty

INTERVIEW | Steve McNulty

Paul Harper20 Aug 2020 - 18:42

Defender's first interview as a Witton Albion player

New signing Steve McNulty says a long-term friendship and competitive squad were the main reasons for him agreeing to move to Witton Albion.

The 36-year-old explains that he has known both Carl Macauley and Gary Martindale (Albion's management team) a long time and believes the duo are assembling a squad to be successful this season.

McNulty explains: "I had some offers to stay full-time but I chose to join Witton because two good friends are in charge, people I've known for more than 20 years.

"It's a good club with a good squad that I think can push for promotion this year. The management team are both very ambitious, as am I."

The defender is looking to use his experience of more than 600 career appearances and six promotions to help the Wincham Park outfit as he moves into the next phase of his football career.

He added: "I'm looking to make the transition into coaching and to pass on some of the experience I have gained over my career, so it was a good fit for both parties.

"I'm still looking to be successful this season as Witton had a good season last year and have a very good squad that is more than capable of challenging for promotion this season."
