CONTINUING THE PATHWAY
We caught up with Chris Appleton on the new u21’s, how this looks moving forward and he didn’t mince his words.
Initial Thoughts:
Introducing the u21’s is a huge step for the football club. The academy has grown so much under Harvey and John and this is just the next step in building what we are doing here!
Salford City:
This was a marquee game for our youngsters against a professional outfit. We expected a really tough game and I believe we did make a good account of ourselves throughout with the facilities and our youngsters on the pitch.
Recruitment:
Recruitment has been ok. We have a squad of 16 at the moment and we’ve managed to keep a core of last seasons successful 18’s side with familiar names such as Louis Patterson and Harry Woods.
Pre-Season:
It’s a tough one sometimes. It’s holiday season and everyone is growing up now but we are starting to come together and have some very tough games lined up including a day by the seaside over in Llandudno.
Coaching staff:
Steve Woods will lead the team while I oversee the transition period and ensure the team is fit and healthy.
Steve is a fantastic coach with years of experience as a professional player and as a coach.
I for one am excited to oversee this project and work with Steve again to continue our development of young players for senior football and Witton Albion Football Club.
