Charity Cup Final - Manchester City |
At the end of the campaign 7 clubs resigned, including 5 of the bottom seven, with Hooley Hill and Nantwich being the exceptions. Altrincham and Tyldesley Albion followed Denton and others into the Lancashire Combination. Four clubs entered their reserve sides into the Manchester League – Chester, Eccles Borough, Rochdale and Stalybridge Celtic. The competition was now at its weakest for many years ... and there was worse to come.

This proved to be the last Manchester League season before World War I. The top four clubs were a cut above the rest, and there was a definite decline in standards and in interest.
Two of Buxton’s games remained unplayed. All the top four clubs joined the Lancashire Combination, which also admitted Nantwich and the reserve sides of Rochdale and Stalybridge Celtic. This ‘ripped the heart out’ of the Manchester league, which therefore ceased to operate.
